Founded in 1970, KOMPAN originated from artist Tom Lindhardt’s observation of children’s natural fascination with his sculptures. Alongside co-founder Hans Mogens Fenne-Frederiksen, Lindhardt sought to bring color and texture to the increasingly anonymous urban housing developments of the era.
These vibrant play elements were designed to provide residential areas with a unique sense of identity and individuality. By transforming art into functional playground equipment, the founders created landmarks that helped children navigate their environments through play.
This philosophy of blending aesthetic beauty with developmental purpose remains the core of the company’s DNA today. Half a century later, the legacy continues to provide children with high-quality, inspiring spaces to enjoy their first years of life.
